Unified bowling team starts season with roll-off event

The new bowling program held a unified bowling “roll-off” on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Centennial Lanes to raise funds for the new school sport.

The first 60 students to sign up in the office were put into groups of four to participate against the unified bowling teams.

The groups consisted of a special needs student, a regular student and two adult bowlers.

Since this is the first year Hays High has had a bowling team, funds are especially important. The adult bowlers were charged $25 to play, spectators were charged a $6 entry fee and students bowled for free.

“My favorite part about bowling with special needs kids is getting to help them participate in sports,” freshman Trevor Stults said. “Not a lot of special needs kids get the opportunity to play in sports, so this really is a great opportunity for them.”
