Styles Dance Center puts on dance fundraiser for Hays girl fighting cancer

On Sunday, Feb. 6 at Beach Schmidt Performing Arts Center, Styles Dance Center put on a benefit concert for Camdyn Darrah.

Darrah is a 13-year-old girl who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Admission was a free-will donation with all the proceeds going to help the family with medical and travel expenses.

“I thought the show was beautiful,” junior Kenzie Cunningham said. “It went really nicely for how short notice it was.”

Cunningham is a dancer at Styles Dance Center and said the show raised around $30,000 for Darrah and her family.

“I think, for getting all of our studio’s numbers and special guests’ numbers on a stage for the first time this season, it was an awesome performance,” Cunningham said. “It was really touching to be involved.”

The show’s special guest was for Developmental Services of Northwestern Kansas (DSNWK).

“We have performances similar to this every year,” Cunningham said. “Before COVID-19, we performed with DSNWK for a showcase every year during the late spring or early summer.”

Styles Dance Center also has a recital each summer at the end of May or beginning of June.

“However, we have never done a show as a fundraiser, even though we do fundraise for the studio, and families that can’t always afford the cost of dance every year,” Cunningham said.

Donations can also be made directly to the family by Venmo to @Alyssa-Dechant Code 3604.
