Nine students selected for KMEA All-State choir and orchestra

After months of preparation and waiting, the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) State Honor Choir has released its results.

Seven Hays High students were selected to be in the State Choir: senior Carson Brooksher, senior Sam Vesper, junior Anthony Arial, junior Kiki Gonzalez, junior Devlyn Jochum, sophomore Nate Henderson and freshman Jordan Aschenbrenner.

These seven students were selected after competing against students from all across northwest Kansas. From Feb. 24-26, they will travel to Wichita to rehearse and perform with the top 500 students in Kansas.

For the orchestra, Hays had two students selected to the All-State Orchestra: senior Kiersten Goertzen and senior Sydney Wittkorn. This is a big milestone for Hays High, as these were the Indians’ first selections in four years. Wittkorn recorded the eighth highest score competing against cities like Kansas City and Wichita.
