The Class of 2023 held a class meeting on Dec. 9 in the Lecture Hall to discuss possible Prom themes for the Hays High School Prom next spring.

They were presented with four themes – Enchanted Forest, Monte Carlo, Roaring ’20s and Starry Night – which were created by the junior class president, Hannah Eikenberry, and the two vice presidents, Halle Lohmeyer and Rilee Schwarz.

The juniors in attendance at the meeting were asked to vote for a favorite, and the theme Monte Carlo was chosen, winning with 65 percent of the vote.

“I was very pleasantly surprised to see that Monte Carlo was chosen,” Eikenberry said. “I think it will be a fun challenge to make the theme look classy and cohesive.”

The juniors were also told their responsibilities when it comes to Prom because it is a tradition for them to put on Prom so that all the seniors have to do is enjoy it. The juniors have to organize all aspects of the night, including décor, refreshments, favors and alternate games.

“The idea is that we do the work now so we can enjoy attending next year without responsibilities,” Eikenberry said.
