Two church conferences that Hays youth attended were held between Nov. 18 and Nov. 21.
The National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) was held in Indianapolis, Ind., across three days beginning on Thursday, Nov. 18. Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Joseph and St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic churches sent approximately 100 students from Hays High and Thomas More Prep-Marian to the conference.
“It was a great time to grow my faith and have a grand time with friends,” junior Cyrus Vajnar said.
The conference, which drew around 10,000 people this year, included public speakers, entertainment, live music and church services.
Another conference, the Kansas District Youth Gathering (KDYG), was held in Topeka across three days beginning on Friday, Nov. 19. Messiah Lutheran sent 10 students to the gathering with around 250 students coming from other places in Kansas.
KDYG had servant events, sessions that covered various topics and four worship sessions throughout the weekend.
“Overall, I had a really good time,” senior Sam Vesper said. “The speaker we had, Bill Yonker, was fantastic, and I loved listening to him! It was nice to get away for the weekend and be with my friends and grow closer to Christ.”
