Students and members of the community play in tournament to raise money for Chess Club on Saturday, Oct. 30.

The Chess Club sold snacks and baked goods in the library until Tuesday, Nov. 9. The items sold were leftovers from their Halloween Fun Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 30.

The food sold at two items for $1 until the last several days of the sale, where the price moved to four items for $1 and consisted mostly of homemade items.

The tournament, co-hosted with Thomas More Prep-Marian, was the first chess tournament that Hays High has held and was a way to raise money for the club.

“Our goal is really to be a self-funded, self-sufficient group,” Holder said.

Holder said she intends to host the same event next year, along with other tournaments and fundraisers to continue to raise money.

“I’m hoping within the next year or so that we can be a completely self-funded group,” Holder said.
