Pizzas made as fundraiser for Europe trip

On the morning of Saturday, April 24, students gathered at Lomato’s to make pizzas to use the pizzas as a fundraiser for an out-of-country trip to Europe. The trip is through the Hays International Travel Club but is open to anyone.

Juniors Aaliyah Neuburger, Kelly Parr and Meg Taggart and sophomore Michaela Dickman were the students who sold and made pizzas to raise money for their planned summer trip to France, Germany, Portugal and Spain in June 2022. The students sold pizzas from April 5 to April 23 and managed to sell a total of 103 pizzas.

Many different pizza toppings were offered. Single topping pizzas were priced at $13 per pizza, and the specialty pizzas were priced at $15.

“The single toppings were cheese, beef, pepperoni, sausage and ham,” foreign language teacher Lora Gallegos-Haynes said. “The specialties were Sooper (pepperoni, mushroom, sausage, onions and green peppers), All Meat (pepperoni, ham, beef, sausage and extra cheese), Garden (onions, green peppers, mushrooms and olives with extra cheese) and Tropical (ham, pineapple and extra cheese).”

The pizza sales are only one of the fundraisers students going on the trip have done to mitigate the $5,470 the trip costs.

Other fundraisers have been selling Hays High bottle koozies, Krispy Kreme donuts, suckers and a barbecue and bake sale at Cerv’s, as well as running concession stands.

“We try to have different fundraisers, as to not sell the same stuff other groups are selling,” Gallegos-Haynes said.
