The Hays High Industrial Technology Association (HHITA) will be racing its electric car again within the next few months.

HHITA will be participating in a total of three races, including the Touchstone Energy West race, Sunflower Electric ElectroRally race and Touchstone Energy East race.

Touchstone Energy West will be in Hoisington on April 14, and the Sunflower Electric ElectroRally will be in Scott City on April 22. Finally, the Touchstone Energy East race will be in Kansas City, Mo., at the World War I Memorial. The race will take place on Monday, May 3 and is likely the last race of the season.

HHITA, along with the other competitors, still will have to abide by COVID-19 protocols, which include staying in the team’s own pit and bringing sack lunches to race day.

Sophomore MacKenzie Hagerman, HHITA vice president and secretary, said she hopes that the team has a successful end of the season.

“We are hopefully going to improve on our times,” Hagerman said. “I hope, through all this, we can bring more attention to our program and keep the legacy that we have had for many years.”
