Eighth grade parent meeting held at Hays High

On Monday, March 8, principal Martin Straub hosted a meeting for the parents of the Class of 2025 at Hays High School.

The meeting was roughly 45 minutes long and offered opportunities for parents and their incoming freshmen to tour the building and learn the ways around Hays High.

Some teachers even have their own children coming to Hays High; math teacher Dustin Dreher has two incoming freshmen, in addition to his sophomore son who is attends Hays High.

“They’re both excited to come up here, and they already have some ideas as to what clubs and sports they’d like to participate in,” Dreher said. “I’m also kind of excited to have them up here as well because instead of having kids in three separate schools, most of them will be in one.”

The meeting covered the important information that students and parents should know before attending and enrolling at Hays High. Straub talked about a lot of the rules and expectations for every class and then talked about the classes that were available for the students as freshmen and what prerequisites to take for the classes they wish to take in the future.

“I think of the most important things that Mr. Straub said that I would tell my kids is that you have to be involved in order to get the most out of high school,” Dreher said. “Be involved in and outside of class, especially extracurriculars. It’s how you have better experiences, and it’s how you get to know people.”
