The seven acts pose for a group photo after their talent show performances in the Lecture Hall.

The annual Student Council Talent Show looked a little different this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. Instead of the typical assembly, the acts prerecorded their performances, and then on Friday, Jan. 29, the student body watched and voted for the acts during PRIDE Time.

The performances were recorded in the Lecture Hall earlier in the week, and a select group of students were able to watch it live while socially distancing.

“It was a really cool experience, and I’m glad I got to be one of the few people to watch the show live,” senior Hope Schumacher said.

The Talent Show consisted of seven acts this year with talents ranging from musical performances to poetry reading.

In third place was an electric guitar duo consisting of freshman Gauge Horlick and Brendan Stults.

Second place went to sophomore Carter Muehleisen with his original song titled “Apocalypse.”

First place went to junior Shirley Lee Jones with her performance of the song “Tears of Gold” by Faouzia.

“It was really nice to get first,” Jones said. “I was also just really glad that a lot of people at Hays High enjoyed watching my performance as much as I did performing it.”
