On Wednesday, Oct. 14, HHITA participated in the Touchstone Energy Electro Rally in Hoisington.

“During the race, we found a lot of things to work on, which is good for the spring season,” sophomore HHITA secretary Mackenzie Hagerman said. “I was one of the lap counter and took a part in the pit crew, and I was the race chief. I also helped to time lapse some and communicate with and between the drivers.”

During the race, few problems arose, such as spokes that kept popping out of the wheels.

“It didn’t seem like we did very well,” senior driver Andrew Prine said. “I was the driver and participated in the pit crew. So, I did alright while driving, but the car didn’t like that.”

Hays High got second during the race, despite all the mishaps, and Scott City took first.

“We kept trying to gain some positions that we lost at Hays High Plains Electro Rally in Hays,” sponsor Chris Dinkel said. “We placed second, and we gained some ground and some points for the Kansas State Championship racing series.”

The Kansas State Championship is a large event in which Hays High has a long streak of placing in the Top 3. This year, though, Dinkel said he is worried that HHITA may come out in fourth place.

“I believe we’re standing fourth in the state right now,” Dinkel said. “The reports have not been graded yet, and that will determine the final places.”
