Students prepare for Drivers Education this summer

Hays High School started the Driver’s Education enrollment for all interested students on Monday, Feb. 24 during PRIDE Time in the Multi-Purpose Room.

At this first meeting, the necessary forms for Driver’s Ed were distributed.

On Monday, March 2 at 7 p.m., there was another informational meeting at Hays High. That meeting was supposed to be attended by the students and at least one of their parents or guardians.

“Mr. Rupp talked about the safety of driving and our parents setting good examples for us and being good role models,” freshman Danica Scheve said. “Then, he talked about the days of Drivers Ed and who the teachers are.”

This year’s sessions are May 18 to May 29, June 1 to June 12, June 15 to June 26 and June 29 to July 10.

The meeting also covered some of the procedures, policies and laws that would affect a students’ driving abilities.

“I’m really excited to complete this step in the path to getting my full license,” Said Scheve, “and bring down my insurance costs.”

If students did not pre-enroll for Driver’s Ed, they will need to fill out the required application and forms, plus turn in part of the fees. A total of $255 is required eventually. Checks should be made payable to Hays USD 489.

If students or parents missed the meetings, they can contact Bruce Rupp at brupp@usd489.com.
