Spanish classes participate in dance lessons
On March 3 and 4, Spanish classes hosted dancers Jaques Moraille from Puerto Rico and Sarah Moraille from Kansas City, a married couple who may not be professional dancers, but are acclaimed to be by everyone who watches.
The classes had the opportunity to learn a variety of dances from the Merengue, the Salsa and the Cha-Cha. All the classes, during their scheduled times, were told beforehand to meet in Gym B. Along with the classes from Hays High, there were others from around our area, including Thomas More Prep, LaCrosse, Ellsworth and Russell
“We actually met dancing at a restaurant called ‘El Caribe,’ so it’s always been a part of our lives, especially mine,” Sarah Moraille said. “I did tap, jazz and ballet growing up and through college.”
At the assembly, the students were told to try to copy the beginner moves at the front that Sarah Moraille was doing, while Jaques Moraille would help some of the other students. After a few easy steps, many of the students had it down, so they could now partner up to dance. The couple then taught some new moves for dancing with partners.
“I believe it went well,” Spanish teacher Matt Whitney said. “there were a number of students who had never had the opportunity to learn different dance styles, and for some, it was the first time dancing with a member of the opposite sex. The dance instructors are always great and get along well with and relate to our students.”
