Assistant Ellis County Attorney Aaron Cunningham speaks to students about career in law
Assistant Ellis County Attorney Aaron Cunningham was among the career speakers who spoke to students during PRIDE Time on Oct. 24.
Cunningham is a 2012 Hays High graduate, and he was very involved in music-related classes and clubs during high school.
After graduating high school, Cunningham got a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and then went to law school at Washburn University.
At the beginning of his presentation, he gave some background information about what made him interested in being an attorney.
Growing up, he was interested in writing, performing and being an advocate, and he always had a strong sense of justice, which led him down this career path.
In high school, some of the things he did to prepare himself for his future job was to practice reading-dense materials, practice his writing skills, work on communicating effectively and take on as many leadership roles as he could.
“Practicing having a servant’s heart is a good skill for an activist to have,” Cunningham said.
After he gave some background information, he went into what his day-to-day life at work looks like.
Cunningham deals primarily with DUI and drug cases and does anything from signing documents to attending court cases for his job.
“The goal of this job is to correct poor behavior and help the victims,” Cunningham said.
