The Site Council will be hosting its next meeting on Nov. 6, which was decided at the last meeting on Oct. 2.

At the October meeting, 14 members were present, including Principal Martin Straub, Superintendent Ron Wilson, Board of Education President Rob Kennemer and newly appointed Secretary Lacy Bruggeman.

Jon Armstrong, a representative for the Kansas Board of Regents, updated the members on Fort Hays State University’s enrollment, admission criteria, scholarship criteria changes and Your Next Step.

Your Next Step is an event for Ellis County seniors to attend and learn more about the new scholarship process on Nov. 21.

Other events discussed were the upcoming Breakfast of Champions on Oct. 23 for honor roll students and the press box fundraiser on Oct. 25.

From last year’s fundraiser, they raised money to provide a dozen $500 scholarships for seniors. The cost of tickets is $150 a seat, and tickets can be donated to others if unable to attend.

The 489 Foundation Fundraiser is scheduled for Oct. 26, and individuals or business interested in sponsoring a table can sponsor one for $500.

After an update on the classes and a student report from the Student Council officers, Wilson said he has been visible in school buildings for the past few months to bond with students and staff.

Wilson said he feels very blessed to have the opportunity to be in Hays.

“You have to do a lot of listening and learning before you can be a good leader,” Wilson said to the group towards the end of the meeting.
