Site Council hosts first meeting of year
The Site Council met on Sept. 4 to discuss the recent developments made at the high school.
This meeting had a much larger turnout than past meetings, with more than 20 parents and faculty attending.
To begin the meeting, principal Martin Straub introduced the new administrator, Fred Winter. This introduction was followed by Site Council President Robert Kennemer asking members to step forward to assume roles as vice president and secretary for future meetings.
Stephanie Niernberger was named vice president.
The Site Council provided reports from multiple members:
- Kansas Board of Regents
- Academic Booster Club
- Athletic Booster Club
- Music Booster Club
- Staff Members
- Student Body
The student body was represented by Student Council President Maddie Lohmeyer and Vice President Yesenia Maldonado.
Following the updates from the members, Straub discussed his points:
- USD 489 Foundation fundraiser
- Grab n’ Go cart
- New clubs
- New personnel
- Summer improvements
The Foundation Fundraiser is an opportunity to raise money for the school district and will be held on Oct. 26.
To conclude the meeting, Straub showed and explained the improvements made to the school, specifically focusing on importance of the new front entrance.
“This is what I like about the Site Council,” Straub said to the group. “We tell the truth. Without the truth, society just makes stuff up, and that is just backpedaling.”
