Senior Isaiah Schindler to run for Board of Education position

Senior Isaiah Schindler is going to run for a position on the Board of Education to get experience for a future career in politics.

In high school, some students choose to start making strides towards their future careers. For senior Isaiah Schindler that means running for a position on the Board of Education.

Schindler plans to become a politician and will major in political science at Fort Hays State University.

“I need the experience of running for public office in order to understand the process of how everything works, as well as create connections to people so I can ask them their thoughts and what they feel is right,” Schindler said.

There are many other reasons he has decided to run, along with the added benefit of helping his future career. One of his main goals would be to improve the BOE’s relationship with teachers and staff.

“The current Board of Education doesn’t have rapport amongst themselves for the most part and shoot down the teachers and the staff from doing what they need to do in order to be successful,” Schindler said.

Schindler believes that in order for a school to properly run you need to have teachers and staff that are dedicated to their work and if there is no sort of incentive from the BOE that won’t happen.

Even though he is only a senior in high school he is able to run because he meets the only two requirements for the position: being 18 years old and a registered voter.

“Age should never have to be a defining factor in consideration for a public office such as this,” Schindler said.

The first step that Schindler had to take was to go to the Ellis County Administration Center and fill out the form to declare candidacy. After doing that his main goal is to get his name out there and run a good campaign.

“I’ll be opening up a GoFundMe page to help with the advertisement costs,” Schindler said.

Above all Schindler wants to improve the community while gaining experience at a position in a public office.

“I want to try to foster community connections as well as help make the school district better,” Schindler said.
