Forensics provides a creative outlet for students

Forensics is a creative way to express yourself.

Offered both as a class and an extracurricular, Mrs. Fenwick teaches students the best way to prepare and present their creativity and self-expression through forensics.

“Forensics is not a crime scene lab,” Fenwick said. “Students talk to friends or read the course guide to learn that forensics is a performance fine art.”

Fenwick also talked about the benefits of taking forensics as a class versus as an extracurricular.

“The class provides the opportunity to learn and prepare each type of speech and interpretation event,” Fenwick said.

Fenwick said the interaction between students in the class provides great insight and proves to be helpful.

Although there is only approximately twenty students enrolled in the class, there’s a growing group taking it on as an extracurricular.

With a wide variety of areas to compete in, forensics is a place for anyone willing to try it.

“Forensics is competitive speech and interpretation of literature including poetry, short stories, monologues and play scripts,” Fenwick said. “Team members choose from 16 different events.”

As competition begins the time to join is now.

“Forensics has a place for everyone,” Fenwick said. “It is a great way to improve communication and performance skills.  Travel to competitions is fun and memorable.  It provides local, regional, state and national competition opportunities.”
