Marching Indians receive straight I’s at High Plains

The Marching Indians played their fall show at the High Plains Marching Festival at Lewis Field on Oct. 22.

The band received straight ones in all categories at High Plains Marching Festival.

There were 21 other schools in attendance and band instructor Matthew Rome said that Hays was among the bigger groups, but still not the biggest.

Performance started at 10 a.m. and continued throughout the day with an awards ceremony at 4 p.m.. Two 15-minute breaks were held at 12:15

p.m. and 2:15 p.m.

Rome said that this was the fourth year the band has gotten straight I’s for every category.

The band played their Chicago show, including songs “Make me Smile,” “Saturday in the Park,” “Wishing You Were Here,” and “I’m a Man,” all by the band Chicago.

“I thought that the band did a good job at the High Plains Marching Festival,” sophomore Alexis White said. “Receiving four straight I’s is something to be really proud of.”
