Musical auditions take place
Auditions for this year’s fall musical, Bright Star, took place Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 10. and 11, in the Lecture Hall.
Prior to the audition, students had to fill out a form with information about their previous stage experience and what their schedule is going to look like for the next couple of months.
“With so many people in one activity I have to figure out when we can all be together to rehearse everything,” musical director Alex Underwood said. “It is such a team effort, everyone’s role is very crucial.”
For the audition, students had to prepare a song and a monologue. The options were all from the show, and male and female roles each got two options.
“They can kind of subtly tell me what role they might be interested in through the song and monologue they choose to audition with,” Underwood said.
After the auditions on Monday and Tuesday there was a dance call at 12th Street Auditorium, where the show will take place.
“They learned a number from the show, then they went in groups of six and we watched them go through the dance to see how they do,” Underwood said.
The original plan was to have callbacks on Thursday, but Underwood decided that he did not need to because he had already made up his mind on all of the roles.
Underwood finds the decision of who gets what role a very hard one to make.
“People have different strengths and weaknesses, so I have to take all of these into account,” Underwood said. “The truth of the matter is several people could play each role well, s it’s har for me to choose when there are four people who would all be wonderful in the lead role.”
