Fort Hays State University hosts High Plains Music Camp
The High Plains Music Camp will take place July 15 through July 21 at Fort Hays State University.
Middle school musicians will have the opportunity to try out for the band, jazz band and orchestra.
Musicians in high school will have the same opportunities as those in middle school, however, on top of band, jazz band and orchestra, they will have the chance to audition for choir and the musical theatre scenes.
Each camper is required to audition for one of the ensembles. The Fort Hays website said that, by holding these auditions, they will be able to place campers in the ensembles that they will benefit from the most based off the students musical and technical skills.
Orchestra director Joan Crull believes the camp is an amazing opportunity for middle school and high school musicians.
“The High Plains Music Camp is an excellent opportunity to get some really good help from excellent teachers and to play with kids from all across the united states,” Crull said. “To get to meet great musicians, be with kids that really care about what they are doing and want to do the best, and just have fun too because they have a lot of fun activities for people to get to know each other. So, it is a good way for musicians to meet other musicians and to learn a lot.”
Registration for the music camp opens Feb. 15.
On-site camp auditions will be held Sunday July 15
The requirements for musicians can be found on the Fort Hays website. For more information go to fhsu.edu.
