Leadership opportunity offered to sophomores
Interested sophomores will have an opportunity to learn more about the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership conference at an informational meeting on during seminar on Friday, Dec. 1 in room 103.
HOBY is an organization that hosts 70 separate leadership seminars across the nation, exclusive to students coming out of their sophomore year. Kansas HOBY hosts their four-day leadership conference in the summer on the Kansas State University campus.
Those who attend the seminar will focus on honing leadership and communication skills through team-building exercises and discussions. The goal of the seminar is to provide students with skills needed to impact their communities in a positive fashion.
Among the core values of the organization are volunteerism, excellence, organizational integrity, diversity, innovative thinking, community partnership, and lifelong learning leadership opportunities. These values are explained more in-depth on the HOBY Kansas website.
Last year’s attendees, juniors Isabelle Braun and Connor Olson, will give a brief presentation about their HOBY experience at the meeting.
Two members of the current sophomore class—one boy and one girl—will be chosen to attend based on a written summary detailing why they feel they are deserving of the opportunity.
For further detail on the application process, attend the meeting on Friday in room 103.
