FFA competes in dairy judging contest

Freshman, Jevin Newman, Cody Walters, and Taylor Loffredi placed in the top 10 at the latest Dairy judging event.

Curt Vajnar’s classes Intro to Ag and Animal Science traveled to Bird City and competed in Dairy Cattle judging. The senior team took fifth out of 13 teams. The Greenhand team took seventh out of 15 teams.

The senior team consisted of sophomores Ashlyn Luetters in fourth place, Ashton Ottley in 21st place, Alea Maestas in 26th place, Colton Vajnar in 30th place, Kaydee Brin in 40th place and Kenna Pfannenstiel in 59th place.

“I am somewhat passionate about dairy judging,” Luetters said. I did good last year so I wanted to make sure I did good again this year. I am not only focusing on this judging event, but others as well. I try to focus on them all. My favorite part about judging is the oral reasons, it gives me a rush of adrenaline when I have to read them my reasons.”

The Greenhand team consisted of freshmen Cody Walters in second place, Jevin Newman in ninth place, Taylor Loffredi in 10th place, Alisha Kruetzer in 17th place, Nolan Klaus in 28th place, Conner Harrel in 35th place, Bill Scott in 51st place, Kaleb Neher in 62nd place, Monique William in 65th place, Dawson VonFeldt in 75th place, Grace Redetzke in 79th place, Brianna Area in 87th place, Marissa Froelich in 88th place, Quinlan Weigel in 92nd place, Noah Sunlevy in 101st place, Cayden Sanders also in 101st place, Kylie Weisner in 104th place, and Madalyn William in 106th place.

“This is something I am passionate about,” Walters said. “My family farms, and I want my future to be in agriculture and continue the family farm. My favorite part about judging is being able to go out and meet new people from other towns, and have fun with these new people as well as the people from Hays High.”
