Red Cross Club does fundraiser at mall
The Red Cross Club recently did a fundraiser at the Big Creek Crossing to raise money for the victims of the recent hurricanes that have hit the South.
“We didn’t necessary have a monetary goal,” Instructor Jayme Goetz said. “Our goal was mainly to teach our students how to approach people and ask politely for donations without being abrasive and to show them how that works when collecting money.”
They had many places in consideration for holding the fundraiser.
“We have three different sub-committees,” Goetz said. “We had a sub-committee for seminar, a sub-committee for school and a sub-committee for community outreach. The sub-committee for community outreach decided that if they set up booths around town such as in front of the mall, Walmart, or anything like that that might be a way to get community awareness.”
Junior club president Cori Isbell said the club chose the mall as the place to have the fundraiser mainly because they were the first to respond when asked if they would allow it.
Many people have lost their homes and everything they own in the hurricane and are now having to replace their belongings.
“I just wanted to do something for them,” Isbell said. “I was really glad that the Hays High Red Cross Club could pull something together.”
