Forensics team dominates first tournament

The Forensics team started their season off with a bang, their first tournament was the Liberal Tournament, which took place on Jan. 21.

As a team, they brought home a traveling trophy and a plaque. Even though it was only the team’s first tournament, it was also their first team sweepstakes win.

To pull out the placings the team got, a lot of preparation had to be done. The team started preparing for their first tournament at the beginning of the new semester.

“Not every student has to prepare the same way,” Park said. “It really depends on your events you’re in but for some a lot of preparation had to be done.”

Forensics instructor, Codi Fenwick was very content with the results of the team’s first tournament.

“I am very proud of these students” Fenwick said. “It was their first tournament and they pulled it off.”

Along with the team taking first, many of the team individuals placed in different categories. Junior Erin Muirhead placed first in poetry while senior Eric Rorstrom placed first in impromptu and first in an IDA duet with sophomore Brittani Park.

Park also took second in her impromptu. Junior Amiyah Gonzalez took second in a dramatic solo. Junior Tana Herrman took second in a humorous solo and third in a prose and senior Joe Factor took fourth in poetry.

“I was so happy with the outcome,” Park said. “I was extremely surprised to even break into finals yet alone get first with my partner in one event and second in the event I had never participated in.”
