Teacher starts Red Cross Club
The American Red Cross is an organization that provides emergency assistance, education, and disaster relief throughout the United States.
The Red Cross Club is a group devoted to helping developing countries fight against poverty and hunger, and they work to bring education to these new countries.
To reach these goals, they spread information by working with the community and talking about global development.
By doing this they are attracting attention to these problems, and raising funds to be able to organize activities to help correct various global development issues.
This new club already has multiple plans and ideas for the future.
At the meeting that took place on January 19th, there was talk of CPR training, various guest speakers, the possibility of painting a church, and much more.
There are also other classes and certifications that were discussed at the meeting. All the certifications that can be achieved through the club are transferrable throughout the U.S. and internationally.
Cori Isbell originally came up to math instructor Jayme Geotz and asked if they could start a Red Cross Club.
“I thought it was a really good idea, and figured if she was interested others would be too,” Geotz said.
Geotz plans to do community out reach programs and hold more blood drives at the school.
“I want to spread more awareness for the Red Cross, and hopefully make students volunteers for it,” Goetz said.
The first meeting yesterday had about 20 students.
“We are still welcoming anyone who wants to join,” Geotz said. “The meeting yesterday was mainly to promote interest in the club.”
