Scholar’s Bowl discusses what it’s like to be on the team
Many students play sports, but other students prefer a different kind of game. The Scholar’s Bowl team is just one example.
“Our ultimate goal is to win meets and to have fun while doing it,” senior Scott Ring said. “In meets we answer 15 different questions about different subjects while competing against another school. The questions are asked with a very short amount of time to answer, and each of the five people on each team have a buzzer and whoever hits it first has to answer. Whoever gets the most correct wins.”
Scholar’s Bowl practices every Friday morning, and competes about every two weeks.
“I like Scholar’s Bowl mostly because of the trivia,” senior Trenton Potter said. “I like the competitiveness, but the trivia is the better part.”
Ring’s favorite part is having his friends by his side on the team.
“I enjoy the people in Scholar’s Bowl,” Ring said. “What keeps me involved are my friends in the program. We all enjoy knowing random knowledge and it’s a perfect way to show what we know.”
Potter has a similar favorite part.
“I like how relaxed and fun it is,” Potter said. “I really enjoy getting to take trips with a bunch of similarly minded people.”
These two teammates encourage others to get involved in Scholar’s Bowl if they have even the slightest interest.
“Just tryout, that’s all there is to it,” Potter said. “It’s not demanding of time and is one of my favorite things to do.”
Ring believes that everyone has potential to be great at Scholar’s Bowl.
“Even if you don’t consider yourself a nerd, try out,” Ring said. “You may be good in another area than math or literature.”
