Hays High yearbook achieves national title
The Indian Call Yearbook received an All-American title from the National Scholastic Press Association for the first time.
To receive the honor rating of All-American, a minimum of 3,700 points and four or five marks of distinction were required. The Indian Call was awarded 4,000 points and four marks of distinction.
Possible marks of distinction were Concept/Essentials, Coverage, Design, Writing/Editing and Photography. Indian Call was awarded all marks except for photography.
The yearbook was also scored on deadlines, with a possible total of 200 points. Indian Call was granted 200 out of 200 points.
“After looking through your book, I immediately wanted to show my own staff all your great ideas for infographics and quick reads,” judge Lauren Wagner said. “You seem to understand that the stories of the year come in many forms. Continue to work at highlighting the unique, personal and visually engaging. Again, congratulations.”
Yearbook instructor Bill Gasper said he is happy with the results of this critique.
“I was extremely pleased when I got the critique back,” Gasper said. “I don’t send in for ratings every year but I thought this yearbook was good. It came back with All-American and it was a nice surprise. I was very proud of the students and the hard work they put in.”
