Dares may provide way of having fun
Teenagers are notorious for partaking in some activities that are less reasonable than some other options, and sometimes peers can aid to these silly doings.
“I’m often dared to do things,” senior Trenton Potter said. “I don’t really get anything out of it. There’s never money involved or anything. It’s usually things like eating ghost peppers and honking at random people and that kind of stuff.”
Potter believes the dares are amusing and provide a source of entertainment.
“It’s fun when we do dares, and also just to see if we actually do them,” Potter said. “Sometimes I do them, sometimes I don’t.”
The number of dares actually carried out is often determined by what the dares are.
“How often we go through with the dares depends,” Potter said. “Some are just too weird, but others are done.”
Potter does not only receive dares, he also gives them.
“I dare others to do the same types of things I get dared to do,” Potter said. “Not as often, but I do.”
Other students partake in silly acts on their own will.
“I do dumb stuff myself, without anyone’s requests or suggestions,” junior Josh Bryant said. “If people did pay me I’d be rolling in money.”
Bryant said his friends do not egg him to make poor decisions because they are aware he will do it on his own.
“They don’t tell me to or pay me to do things because they know I’ll die eventually from doing the dumb things I do, so it’s useless giving a dead man money,” Bryant said.
