Music plays an important part in students’ lives
Between participating in choir, listening to the radio on the way to and from school, or simply hearing the soundtrack in the background of a movie music has become a part of every single person’s life, possibly without them noticing it. This is why music is tied to everything around people.
“Music is very important to me because it’s been with me my whole life,” junior Jared Thom said.
He plans to major in some form of music in college, and try to go into the Christian music industry.
“Usually in my free time I have something playing in the background,” sophomore Trinity Callis said.
She listens to music constantly and doesn’t have any particular favorites.
“Music is important to me because it’s something I’ve been doing for a long time,” Callis said.
Her family has been involved in music for a while as well.
“Listening to music lets you release and just let go of the everyday problems that you’re facing at the time. Music has helped me through a tough time because when I have a rough day I’ll just listen to something,” Thom said.
He listens to music every single day and as often as he can.
“If I’m having a bad day, listening to music can change my mood completely. I listen to music every day, but can’t pick a favorite song or artist because I am really open to different kinds of music and like finding new songs, artists, and genres,” junior Veranika Fuller said. She also finds music as a sources of motivation.
The students then went on to define music in their own words.
“A kind of ‘sound art’ that expresses ideas and emotions through different rhythms and beats,” Fuller said.
Callis had a similar definition.
“Music, to me, is a way to express your emotions and is a way of connecting to everyone, no matter who they are,” Callis said.
Junior Lakin Ditter had a different idea.
“Music is a way to go to your own world and just to think and block everything else out,” Ditter said.
Thom had his own thoughts about music.
“Music is the finished product of an artist that has put in a lot of work. It is a medium that lets the artist communicate with their audience to express a message or emotion within the person listening,” Thom said.
Music includes the musical underscores that are in both movies and television shows, commercials and businesses that use jingles, and special effects which are basic musical sounds that make moments more emotional or scary or powerful. Essentially, music is everywhere.
