FFA partakes in opportunities for career development
Future Farmers of America have been participating in many career development events this year. On February 14, the students competed in Grinnell.
In the Meats CDE category, the team as a whole got second in the Greenhand Division. Individuals who placed were freshman Jared Kisner with second place, freshman Dylan Schmidtberger, freshman Elijah Joy, freshman Hunter Olsen, freshman Dustin Schneider, and freshman Ashlyn Sonntag. Freshman Kelsi Page and freshman Kelli Buxton also participated but did not place.
The Senior Division received first as a team. Sophomore Katie Fross, sophomore Conrad Vajnar and sophomore Marie Reveles placed individually.
The Ag Mechanics CDE category had many subcategories, including Soil and Water Management, Farm Power and Machinery, Electrical Power, Structures and Environment, and lastly Ag Construction and Maintenance.
As a team, second place was achieved in Soil and Water Management. Senior Brooke Russell, junior Wade Woydziak and junior Jarrett Pfannenstiel placed individually with second, fourth and 13th place.
In Farm Power and Machinery, the team got fifth place. Woydziak placed second.
The team placed sixth in Structures and Environment. Individually, sophomore Lane Pfannenstiel came in tenth.
Individuals who placed in Ag Construction and Maintenance were Pfannenstiel with third, Woydziak with tenth and sophomore Brayden Dorzweiler with 12th. The team placed first.
Overall, the team as a whole placed second and Woydziak and Pfannenstiel placed individually.
The second category was N.W. Dist. Poultry CDE. The Greenhand Division received second. Kisner placed third, Schmidtberger placed eighth, Schneider placed 11th and Joy placed 12th. Students who also participated were Page, Olsen, Buxton, freshman Dalton Trickle, freshman Kara Gabel and Sonntag.
The Senior Division received first as a team and Fross, sophomore Breanna Park and sophomore Laura Montgomery placed individually with second, third, and tenth.
The last category was the Smith Center Livestock CDE. The team received first. In the Greenhand Division, sophomore Alanna Hansen received 11th. In the Senior Division, Vajnar placed ninth, Pfannenstiel placed tenth and Fross received 12th. Reveles, sophomore Tanner Hunsicker and sophomore Maraia Werth also participated.
Upcoming events include N.W. Dist. Agronomy, Horse, and Horticulture CDE on April 15 at Colby, N.W. Dist. Livestock CDE on April 22 at Oakley and N.W. Dist. Banquet on April 23 at Smith Center.
