Dane Hansen applicants attend interviews

A select few hopeful seniors were chosen for Dane Hansen interviews this year, as always. The interviews took place on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Certain seniors spoke out about their interview for a possible future as a scholarship winner.

“My interview, I think, went fairly well,” senior Shelbie Berens said. “I was myself the whole time and I answered honestly so I will just hope for the best. I would be very grateful with any amount of scholarship, honestly.”

Senior Logan Renz agrees with Berens’ outlook.

“I think the interview went pretty well overall,” said Renz. “They referred to my essay quite a few times. They asked about my reference to Steve Jobs, what my plan B will be if plan A doesn’t work, what books I’ve read lately, what the Unmanned Air Craft (UAS) job outlook will be like in the near future, and what kind of tie I had on.”

Berens’ interviewers asked her to sing in her interview, because she mentioned that she partakes in choir.

“The most surprising thing they asked was at the very end,” said Berens. “They asked me to sing for them. I agreed but blanked out on any songs besides the national anthem. Before going in I wrote down some questions on notecards, and wrote my answers on the back and studied so I wouldn’t go in and not know what to say to questions they were likely to ask. I really wasn’t nervous.”

Renz plans on going into Unmanned Aerial Systems, otherwise known as drones.

“I hadn’t stressed out over it very much until it was time for me to go in,” said Renz. “I will be going to Kansas State in Salina to get a bachelor’s degree in UAS.”

Berens doesn’t have her future planned out, but isn’t worried.

“I don’t know yet what I plan on going into,” said Berens. “College is expensive no matter what and the less money I have to pay back the better. At least I know I’m going to Wichita State. The rest will play out. First, I want to focus on the funding to get there.”
