Orchestra students go to Denver for educational concert

This Friday, some of the orchestra members will be going to Denver, Colorado for their traditional “orchestra family” trip. With plenty to see and do, the students who are going seem very excited as well as orchestra director Joan Crull.

“The main thing we’ll be doing is watching the Colorado Symphony perform a varied program with the Colorado Symphony Chorale,” Crull said. “We’ll also be hiking Mt. Sanitas, visiting Red Rocks Ampitheater and museum, downtown Denver, and Pearl Street in Boulder. (A street lined with outdoor performers and fun shops).”

Crull said the orchestra has been doing this trip for over eight years and the tradition was started before she even taught at Hays High.

“I’m very excited for the trip,” Crull said.

Going out of town for a fun event is exciting for the students.

“I’m excited because it’s an out of town trip which we never do,” freshman Lucy Lin said. “Plus we don’t have play.”

Another part of students said it will be interesting for the educational part.

“It’s going to be a really cool learning experience,” freshman Tayzain Otte said.

The opportunity to go on this trip is slim but when the time comes, the majority of the students spend a lot of time having fun.

“I’m doing this trip to expose the students to a professional orchestra, the mountains, and big city life,” Crull said. “We always widen our horizons on a trip like this.”
