Maroon and Gold Kickoff set for Friday
The annual Maroon and Gold Kickoff will be Aug. 29 starting at 6 p.m. at FHSU and will signify the beginning of the fall sports season.
Maroon and Gold provides an opportunity for athletes involved in football or soccer to get practice and to show the student body their abilities.
“Maroon and Gold is our first chance to show the school how hard we have been working and what’s to come in the season,” senior Craig Dreiling said.
Work and dedication are necessary when it comes to getting ready for the event.
“We are preparing for it by practicing hard and making sure we execute everything when Friday comes,” Dreiling said.
The band will be at Maroon and Gold, but will be staying in the stands to support the teams as opposed to performing during half time.
“We play the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ and some other songs,” junior Elizabeth Emerson said.
Free food will be served from 6-8:30 p.m. There will be hamburgers, chips, soda and water.
Students involved in fall sports will be introduced and students in soccer and football will scrimmage each other.
The student athletes have mixed feelings about scrimmaging one another in front of the students who attend Maroon and Gold.
“I’m both excited and nervous because I don’t want to mess up in front of all the supporters, but I’m excited to get the season started,” sophomore Dylan Scheibler said.
