Staffer reviews popular book ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’
“Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens was published in 2018 and is soon to be adapted to a motion picture this year.
More than 10 million copies of the book have been sold internationally, and it was the No. 1 bestselling book of the year in 2019 and 2020.
The novel is set in a coastal North Carolina marsh during the late 1950s. The story follows a young girl named Kya as she grows up and learns to live on her own in the marsh. It depicts her struggles along with the perks of growing up so secluded from society.
When a murder rocks the town and courtroom proceedings ensue, it leaves the readers to question their perceptions of the characters.
I highly recommend reading this stunning novel. How the novel is written, along with the courtroom proceedings, reminds me of the 1960s novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee in all the best ways.
