REVIEW: “Cats” movie must be watched as a comedy to enjoy
“Cats” — a movie hated by nearly everybody who has seen it. Its horrifying CGI and awful plot-line leave nearly every viewer dissatisfied. I, however, see some good in this mess of a movie.
Although the CGI is nothing short of a sleep paralysis demon and the plot-line is about as thick as oxygen, it does have some redeeming qualities.
If you look at the movie from a completely musical standpoint, it is not that bad. It features some incredibly talented artists, such as Jason Derulo, Jennifer Hudson and Taylor Swift. Nearly every song in the movie is at least decent, apart from Swift’s song “Beautiful Ghosts,” which is so far from beautiful that it leaves you wishing you were a ghost. Some songs are so beautiful, in fact, that if you were to listen to them without ever seeing the movie, you might even be moved in some way.
If you look at the movie as if it were something meant to be entirely theatrical, it meets those expectations. The movie is filled with beautifully sang songs and intricately choreographed dance numbers.
Do not just watch the movie expecting it to be horrible, because, well, for a movie, it really is horrible. Go into it expecting something fun and theatrical. Do not search for a plot, as it does not have any underlying meanings. It is simply fun theatrics.
