2015 review

2016 New Year celebration display with the date outlined with fiery sparklers in green and blue on a black background

With 2015 coming to a close, it’s time to look back on the whirlwind of politics and cinema. Loads of new music has been released, there is a plentiful amount of new books and new potential leaders to root for. Overall it’s been a fulfilling year, but let’s get down to specifics.

During this year, the movies that have been produced have been memorable. Whether it be in a good way or bad way. Cinematic fans found themselves watching many of this year’s movies no matter what the quality of the actual film was. Some movies, however, that were most enjoyable were movies such as “Ex Machina”, a sci-fi about the first A.I., “Mad Max: Fury Road”, a remake of the 80s classic but with a feminist twist, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, the intense sequel to the first Avengers film and “The Martian.” That’s naming a few. Some movies were major flops like the remake of horror classic “Poltergeist” or the heavily boycotted “Stonewall”, which critics called, “A Hollywood attempt to make a historical movie, but failing miserably.”

Television has also been interesting this year. The new season of “American Horror Story” premiered in October and Lady Gaga received critical acclaim for her performance. This season is actually pretty good. A new Marvel series “Jessica Jones” had its debut on Netflix and is a product of Marvel and as if that’s not enough if you’re interested in darker superhero stories then you should watch it. The new Tina Fey comedy “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, another product of Netflix, also received high praise. Some shows didn’t quite get the same attention and were pretty low quality. The comedy sitcom “Truth Be Told” tried to be witty but was only overly cheesy and a bit bland.

As well as television, music has been interesting. Musicians like Sam Smith and Halsey made a big splash this year and had really great albums come out. Adele returned and finally blessed us with her presence in the music world. One Direction released a new album and people have seemed to enjoy it.

The worst part of the year has been the political injustice and terrorism our country is engulfed in. With the rise of ISIS and police brutality only becoming a bigger problem, our country is under a lot of stress. This generation has had to deal with things people our age shouldn’t have to go through, especially this year. Also some of the presidential candidates have been under fire for their ideas.

Overall this year has been really great entertainment wise and I was very pleased with most of the movies and shows that came out. Although the world issues of today affect us and our everyday lives, this year was a pretty decent year.
