“The Book of Life” movie review
“The Book of Life” was released in theatres on Oct. 17. It’s an animated film that tells the story of two friends fighting for the love of their other friend, Maria, while overcoming other obstacles along the way.
The movie is based around the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead. The majority of the setting takes place on or around that day.
The main story begins with the rulers of the Land of the Remembered and the Land of the Forgotten placing a bet on which boy would grow to marry Maria. Much of the plot focuses on the competition for Maria’s love, but also focuses on their struggle of living up to the family name. Manolo was born into a bullfighting family, but has a deep passion for music and Joaquin’s father was a great hero, so expectations of him were high.
The ending to the movie was exactly as I had hoped it would be and the rest was intriguing and entertaining. The colors were beautifully vibrant and the special effects were neat.
I think this movie had the right amount of romance while still being able to effectively convey the message to always be true to who you are.
Overall, I would say this movie could be enjoyable for people of all ages with any kinds of interests and I would definitely recommend to others.
This is Raina Basso. She is a senior.
