Painting one of 10 art classes offered
Students have the chance to take 10 art classes, one of which is Painting.
The only prerequisite for Painting is Art Exploration, the prerequisite for all other art classes as well.
“In class, we distinguish students new to painting class as beginners,” Painting instructor Jennifer Younger said. “Beginning painters learn about using acrylic paint, oil paint and different types of watercolor paint as well as different techniques in which they can be used.”
Students that have taken painting multiple times are considered “advanced painters” and have more freedom with choosing the paints they use.
Younger said the average number of students in a Painting class is 20.
“Students are able to express themselves through their art,” Younger said. “Students also learn a great deal about color theory as well as the elements and principles of art and design.”
Not only do students paint, they also learn about different styles of painting.
“We look at many different styles of painting through the use of art history,” Younger said. “Once a student finds a particular style that is desirable, we then look at the techniques that need to be used to achieve that style. I let the student explore the different styles and choose which direction they would like to go with their painting.”
All supplies needed for projects are provided, but students can bring their own supplies if preferred.
