Class rings a sentimental token

To buy or not to buy, that is the question.

Every year, the conversation can be heard through the halls. Students who purchase new class rings flash the new accessory to all their friends, while others decide not to buy one.

“I don’t remember the exact prices, but I remember thinking they were fairly expensive considering some of they weren’t real gold and had lab created stones,” senior Breanne Kruse said. “That’s just my opinion. I’m glad to have one though, and I think if you really want something to represent high school and you plan to wear it, they are worth it.

“I think I a paid somewhere in the $300 range, but I love rings and I wear one every day, so I will get use out of it.”

Rings have a wide range of costs, some reaching up to $1000.

Although the price is excessive, many students go ahead with the purchase.

“On average, I wear my ring about once a week,” senior Jessie Carmichael said. “ I would definitely say it was worth the money, though. It is more than just a ring to me. It’s more sentimental.”

A class ring allots the buyer a choice of design, gem, symbols and engraving. Engravings such as a soccer ball or a music staff represent the hobbies of an individual. Other engravings, such as name or class, are also an option.

“I don’t have one yet but I do plan on getting one,” sophomore Denton Rathke said. “I want it as a way to remember the times that I will have throughout high school.”
