Students Attend ACDA National Conference

On Tues. March 12, juniors Molly Barnett, Amy Jordan, Shelby Matlock and Megan Zeman left for Dallas, Texas. They are preparing for the American Choral Directors Association National Conference performance. The girls each had sent a tape that included “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”, a scale or two and an aria of their choice to audition for the choir and were selected singers.

The students began rehearsing Tuesday and will continue until their performance on Saturday March 16.

“We’ve spent about 14 hours in rehearsal so far, and we still have two more days,” Zeman said. “But it’s so much fun. We got a private concert from the group “Rajaton”, an amazing acapella group, met the composer of one of our pieces, got a session with a professional choreographer, and ate a lot of good food.”

Barnett said the students have done nothing but sing, eat and sleep.

“By the end of the week we will have spent probably 24 to 25 hours rehearsing,” Barnett said.

Although there are many hours of practicing before the concert, Zeman is excited for the performance.

“The choir is massive and we’re all working so hard to make it wonderful,” Zeman said. “I can’t wait for that moment in the performance when everyone gets chills at the same time and we all just look at each other like, “Yes. We did it.””
