Students Perform at Fall Concert

Students performed in the fall concert on Oct. 15. Groups that performed were Orchestra, Concert and Freshman Choir and Chamber Singers. Orchestra began the night with “Peer Gynt Suite No. 1,” “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss,” and an Irish reel entitled “Toss the Feathers”. Orchestra director Joan Crull the concert was a challenge,

“The first concert of the year is a tough one,” Crull said.  “I have a large group of freshman, which makes the first concert even more challenging. However, in spite of that, they played very musically and beautifully. There are always things to improve upon.”

Full Chord press followed performing “Seize the Day,” “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and the traditional “Barbara Ann.” Chamber Singers began the first half of their performance with the song “Sing Me To Heaven” and followed with “The Spinning Song.”

Concert Choir then performed “Buffalo Gals,” then “Dirait-On” and “Homeward Bound.” Freshman Choir then took over and kept a similar mindset with their three pieces “Over Hill Over Dale,” “Wake Me A Song,” and “The Old Woman in a Basket.”

As a finale, Chamber Singers with the choreographed pieces “A Little Less Conversation” and a mash-up between the songs “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” and “One Way or Another,” featuring soloists seniors Charlie Stieben and Delphine Burns.

Overall, it was a crowd-pleasing night and many students felt confident and satisfied with each of their performances.

“I’m surprised we did as well as we did because we didn’t seem as prepared in class as we did on stage,” said senior Ashley Smith. “I have a strong belief that we’re going to be great by the end of this year.”

Freshman Isabella Lee agreed with Smith.

“I thought we did amazing,” Lee said. “Considering we haven’t had the music for very long, I felt like we did pretty well.”
