Boys golf finishes regular season meets, gets final WAC standings

Senior Ashton Hernandez hits his tee shot on hole 15 at the Smoky Hill

On May 7, the Hays High School boys golf team when to Garden City to participate in the 36-hole invitational tournament at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course. They only played the first 18 holes.

Sophomore Jaxon Zimmerman took 31st with a 93, junior Landen Clark placed 33rd with a 94 and junior Ashton Bickle and senior Ashton Hernandez both shot a 95 to tie for 35th place.

All together they shot a 377 for seventh place.

Later, on May 10, they travelled to Liberal to play in the Liberal Invitational Tournament at Willow Tree Golf Course.

Freshman Braxton Banker shot an 82 for 10th place, Hernandez and Clark tied for 12th with an 84 and Bickle shot an 87 for 15th.

As a team, they finished third with a score of 337.

On May 13, they played their final regular season tournament at Great Bend’s Stone Ridge Country Club, and final Western Athletic Conference standings were released.

Hernandez shot an 85, Buckles shot a 90 and Clark and Banker shot a 91. As a team at the tournament, they took third with a total of 357 shots.

For WAC, as a team, they took third place in the conference, and individually, Hernandez earned second team All-WAC honors.
