College is not always right for everyone

As soon as you step foot into the halls of any high school, you are instantly being geared towards college.

Testing, homework and after school activities take up most of the average teens’ time. But why are we pushed to do so much? The answer is simple: it looks good on scholarships. What if you didn’t want to attend college?

College isn’t for everyone. It can be incredibly expensive, high stress environment. In 2011, the average college student was $26,600 in debt. Since 2011, the average debt has increased.

Personally, I don’t want to be in debt for the rest of my life. All of my interests revolve around activities that I could be successful in without a college degree.

I do well in school and I’m a very dedicated person. So the reason I don’t want to go to college isn’t because I’m “lazy”. I don’t want to go because I can see the effect it has on people still paying it off after several years. I don’t want to go because being “overeducated” for a job is becoming more and more of a problem.

College is a great option for anyone who has looked into it and decided it’s what is best for them. But you shouldn’t have to feel like lesser of a person because you don’t feel that going to college is right for you.
