The Ronald McDonald House Charities have been open in Wichita since 1982. Money is being raised to combine both into one which will be connected to Wesley Medical Center.

The Ronald McDonald Houses in Wichita provide housing for families with children in the hospital. They do this by asking for a nightly donation of $15, but if the families cannot pay, they may stay at no cost.

DECA works with this organization to help families, and on Jan. 29, they will be traveling to Wichita to help with chores at the Houses and deliver pull tabs.

“We put it together because it is important for us to not only raise and donate money, but do work at the houses and give our time because time is just as valuable,” junior Kallie Leiker said.

This year, the only returners are juniors Isabelle Braun, Brianna Forinash and Leiker as well as sophomore Cassidy Prough.

Others in the class will soon get to participate in the experience.

“It’s a new experience,” senior Lisa Schoenberger said. “It’s always fun to go out and help other people in communities who don’t necessarily have as much as you do.”

Helping at the Houses is supposed to help the chapter learn more according to Leiker.

“I hope the chapter gains a new perspective of what the homes are like and realize how great they are for families,” Leiker said.
