KMEA workshop held this past weekend

The KMEA In-Service Workshop took place in Wichita on Feb. 26 and lasted until Feb. 28. The workshop was for students involved in choir, orchestra, and band.

Although choir, orchestra, and band all participated in the event, they each did their own concert.

“We all had separate concerts,” junior Jared Thom said. “None of it was really together.”

Thom participated in state choir.

“I really enjoyed state choir,” Thom said. “It was such a refreshing experience.”

Thom said the choir students were well guided by their conductor.

“Brad Holmes, the conductor, was so great,” Thom said. “He had a vision for each piece and he knew what he wanted to do with each one.”

Students rehearsed for a total of 17 hours in three days.

“It was all worth it for the performance,” Thom said.

The choir students sang six pieces of music for their concert. Orchestra performed three pieces in the Kansas Allstate Orchestra.

“It was lots of fun getting to perform with other talented musicians,” sophomore Tanner Callis said. “It was much more enjoyable than regular orchestra.”
