1Q84 review

1Q84 review

“1Q84” by Haruki Murakami follows the narratives of Masami Aomame a hitwoman, Tengo Kawana a novelist and Ushikawa a private detective. The novel deals with parallel universes, alternate histories and it is filled with suspense. It was originally released in Japan including three volumes in 2009.

Masami Aomame is an assassin who is late to her work assignment, her taxi cab driver suggests that she climbs onto a fire escape to get to her assignment but warns her that doing so will result in changing the nature of reality. The next day she notices small changes in her community and soon realizes she is in a different universe. Ushikawa is soon assigned to find her whereabouts and is also investigating Tengo.

This novel messes with your mind, but not so much that it leaves you confused. It talks about a lot of themes that are very unattainable to society such as alternate worlds. It’s very interesting to see how the author compares the worlds.

If you’re looking for a good sci-fi then you might enjoy “1Q84”. It is pretty lengthy but it gets quite addictive and it’s filled with exciting events. I would definitely recommend this book to people who have more time to spare and are interested in parallel universes.
