The Kansas Honors Scholars is a program where the University of Kansas (KU) recognizes a select group of seniors from across the state.

The students who receive this honor are seniors who rank in the top ten percent of their class. There are 18 students from Hays High School that will be recognized.

HHS Counselor Suellyn Stenger said there are many different dates and places across the state that the students can choose to go and be recognized for this honor.

“I believe most of our students will choose October 18,” Stenger said. “It will take place at TMP Highschool.”

According to the KU Alumni Association, ceremonies will include speakers, recognition of the scholars, and a reception for scholars, families, school administrators, and alumni.

Scholars who attend a ceremony will receive a distinctive Kansas Honor Scholar medallion.

“It is definitely an honor they can put on their resume,” Stenger said.
