Baby chickens incubated at Hays High

The preschool at Hays High has recently done an experiment with baby chickens. The classroom got the eggs and incubated them, then got to see the eggs hatch.

“We were learning about farm animals and spring, and we thought raising baby chicks would go perfect with this theme,” preschool teacher Tina Albers said.

Albers said she had never done this experiment with any of her classes before, but she loved it so much this year that she plans on doing it with her class again next year.

“It was a great experience and the kids really enjoyed it,” Albers said. “We found videos on Youtube showing a chick growing in the egg over the span of 21 days. The kids really got into the videos.”

There are two preschool class rooms and both classes got to see a chicken hatch.

“We got very lucky that both classes got to see the chickens hatch,” Albers said. “It was a very exciting experience for them.”

Albers sent the chickens to a classroom at Washington Elementary School so students there could also enjoy the chickens.
