Teacher Matt Brooks talks about career

Matt Brooks has been teaching for 19 years and will have coached nine different sports after this year. He teaches Psychology and World History II.

“There were several teachers and coaches in my life that really made an impact on my attitude, self-discipline, and approach to what’s important in life,” Brooks said. “My dad was a pastor and my mom worked in several jobs that focused on helping people – consequently, I’ve always known I wanted to try making a difference in young people’s lives.”

Brooks said his favorite part about teaching is explaining things that can help a young adult become someone who can make a positive impact on the world.

“Both classes have such important information that can help make us better people,” Brooks said. “I genuinely love teaching them both.”

Brooks worked at NCAA for a year for the internship portion of his Master’s degree, where he starred in their drug testing video.

If Brooks weren’t a teacher, he would want to be working in the athletic department at Kansas State University.

Although Brooks has been teaching and coaching for so long, he does not feel that is his best achievement.

“My greatest accomplishment is convincing my wife to marry me and having three kiddos,” Brooks said.
